Sew Excited...Store Opening Soon!

Sewing, sewing and more sewing... And more sewing! It's all coming together. In between sewing classes, cooking, cleaning, kiddies homework and a host of other Mommy & Wifie duties, I have been sewing items for my online store.  So yes, I am SEW excited because I am finally making myself be ok with what I have completed thus far.
So many designs and ideas in my head, I have decided to start with creating items that are
 positive images of my Kids.

Take a peek at some of the items and I will share more as I count down to the Grand Open.

Practice, Practice, Practice!

It’s not uncommon for someone that has never sat down to sew would be able to sew perfectly on the first try. Sewing takes practice and practicing develops confidents. Pull together some scraps of fabric and make time for yourself to practice different sewing techniques on your sewing machine.
Start with the straight line stitch.
And while you are practicing, think of all the projects you can create!

Make a dot-to-dot sewing sheet (on copy paper) to practice on like the one shown above
and practice on your sewing machine.

This is a great way to get kids comfortable with sewing.

Bring Your Projects To Life

One of my close friends call me on a Monday saying that she would LOVE to have a "Garment Bag" for the dress that I altered for her. The dress that she would be wearing on the following weekend to a wedding that she's in. I said, "really!" and she said, Yes... really!" (following her long PLEEEEEEEEEASE and the loving smile she gave over the phone.)  I said... OK!
Needless to say this is what was dreamed up for her.

She adores black and white prints. And with this in mind I took some zebra printed cotton fabric, dark chocolate vinyl, black Velcro, hot pink suede, and a piece of polka-dot ribbon.

Let the sewing begin!

A couple of hours later... this is what the materials have transformed into.
Whether your heart desires to sew, dance, sing, paint, write, etc...
If you can dream it, you can do it.

--- Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Button up & sit Tight

How to Sew a Flat Button:

Once you have threaded your needle...

Insert the needle from the back to the front of the fabric.
Pull the needle and thread all the way through.
Slide the needle through one of the buttonholes.
Slide the button down the thread to meet the fabric.

From the front insert needle through the other button hold onto the backside of fabric.
Pull needle and thread all the way through.

Repeat and sew through all the buttonholes at least two times. This will help to secure the button to the fabric tightly.
Secure the thread on the back of the fabric with at least 2-3 in and out stiches as shown.

Knot the thread on the back of the fabric...

and cut extra thread.

Done!!!!

I know it seems like a lot of STEPS but it's really worth it to
know and have the confidence to do it yourself.

This's it.

Wonderfully Made... School Boy Blazer

I am giving credit where credit is due regarding the inspiration above. I truly love all the items shown but I am not able to partake in purchasing some of these items right now. Therefore I have added my own touch to create the look affordable for me. I purchase my similar red tank from Marshalls, the dark blue school-boy blazer I found at a resale shop and the men’s shirt was my husband's that I cut (shhhhhhhh, he does not know this)!  I did get the printed trousers from Zara and this wonderful bug necklace that I borrowed from Eli is also from Zara. Both of these we picked up at one of their fabulous sales.  And the owl loafers are on my wish list from Zara.

The point of this is for you to know that you too are an original, one-of-a-kind, and you can wear whatever makes you feel good. Old or new, just make it your own style.  Grace and Peace!

18 years of Fabric Stores

Eli has been going to fabric stores with me for 18 years and I would like to think that I have introduced her to another world of creating. For me, I can spend hours in a fabric store... for Eli, well once she finds the fabric she adores...
it's time to go!

This is at the famous Mood, Inc. store in New York City.

Jumping In! Classes Starting Soon

When it's time... it's TIME.  Eli and The Kids Sewing Studio is now accepting registration for sewing appointments / lessons. 90 minute blocks are being reserved (surprisingly) really fast.  Classes are being held Tuesday thru Saturday and I am accepting private lessons. With God's Speed lets have some fun creating and learning.  My passion is to teach kids and adults the basics and joy of working with their hands.

Here are a few shoots of what my Home Studio is transforming into. Enjoy!

A BIG Thank you to my husband for his sweat and hard work on the fantastic painting.
Also a special Thank you to T. Burns of Styles For Life for their services with the inspiration.

More to come... stay tuned.
